The Caveman Bar, Not a Caveman Diet Food

I forgot exactly where I found this bar but when I spotted them I couldn’t resist trying these out.  I purchased the wild blueberry nut, dark chocolate cherry nut, and dark chocolate almond coconut.

HOW DOES IT FARE?

Company: 3/5

The first thought in my mind when I read the ingredients list was “false advertising.” While Cave Man bars don’t claim to be a paleo friendly food, the name can easily be mistaken.  The paleo diet is thought of as the “caveman diet” and a person on the go can easily mistake the Caveman Bar to be part of this trend.  Do not be fooled, brown rice syrup and cane sugar would make this bar NOT paleo friendly.  Despite my major qualm with the bar founder, Chris is an avid swimmer and athlete.

These bars looks delicious!

Taste: 8/10

The blueberry bar delivers a delicious punch of flavor to the tastebuds.  The bar is very sweet, and I wonder why the decision was made to add so much unnecessary sugar. The bar might even be better with no sugar added; blueberries are often sweet enough on their own.

Ingredients & Nutrition: 6/10

The bar is gluten free and contains a simple list of ingredients.  Unfortunately the makers felt the need to add brown rice syrup and evaporated cane sugar to make the product overly sweet.  The bar has 11g of sugar and only 5g of protein.  The good taste came at a price for this bar.

Variety: 5/5

You have 8 delicious looking flavors to choose from here.

Availability: 3/5

The bar has partners with several retailers like 7-eleven and Costco.  They do not offer a store locator on the website but you can purchase these online as well.  They also might provide you a sample for $1 shipping and handling.

My score: 30/40
